SEQUAL Launches FPA-endorsed Financial Planner Equity Release Program
Sydney, 18 August 2008 – SEQUAL and the Financial Planning Association (FPA) have announced a professional development program designed to ensure that Financial Planners are well placed to advise clients on Reverse Mortgages.
“With the growing importance of equity release as a retirement financial planning tool, SEQUAL welcomes this opportunity to work with FPA Members who play a critical role in ensuring that retirees are able to make fully informed decisions,” said Kevin Conlon, CEO, SEQUAL.
The initial series of SEQUAL Financial Planner Program workshops will be conducted in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane during September 2008 and will then be offered nationally. Read the Media Release

SEQUAL Members have voluntarily agreed to adhere to the SEQUAL Code of Conduct. Only SEQUAL approved members can display the SEQUAL logo on their web site, on their brochures and printed material, as a confirmation that they have been endorsed by SEQUAL on the terms of this Code of Conduct.

Mission and Objectives of SEQUAL
The SEQUAL Mission is to ensure the professionalism of those who offer or distribute Equity Release products for senior Australians. SEQUAL is dedicated to assuring consumers and industry participants alike of the quality and integrity of its members, and the way members conduct their business.
The primary objectives of SEQUAL are:
- To provide an industry forum for the collaborative development of an ethical and successful Equity Release market in Australia.
- To provide effective consumer protection through a Code of Conduct by which members of SEQUAL are expected to comply.
- To represent the constituent parts of the Australian Equity Release Market at the national level through a process of consultation with Government, Regulators and Consumer Agencies.
- To provide a central resource of consumer information on Equity Release products and processes and to enable efficient access to SEQUAL members.
Overseas Associations
In recent years Australia has seen a significant increase in the popularity of Equity Release products. This style of product has also been operating in other countries, primarily the UK and USA, for many years.
In the UK, leading Equity Release Providers, operate within the Code of Practice of SHIP (Safe Home Income Plans).
